Amy Butte
The finance chief who took the New York Stock Exchange public in 2006 later steered Navan to its October 2025 IPO, and has served on the boards of several companies.
Navan's chief financial officer, 2024 to 2026
Amy Butte joined the board of Navan, the travel and expense company formerly known as TripActions, in April 2024 as audit committee chair. Navan's announcement that she would become chief financial officer, effective in June 2024, said she stepped down from the audit chair to take the job. It described more than 25 years in finance as a banker, research analyst, board director and CFO, and said she had taken companies public, notably the New York Stock Exchange.[1][2]
Navan said at the time that its revenue had nearly quintupled from 2021 to 2023 and that forward bookings were up nearly twofold year over year. CEO Ariel Cohen said she was the right person to take the company into its next stage of growth.[1][6]
The IPO and her exit
CFO Dive reported that Navan's IPO closed on October 29, 2025, raising $923 million at a $6.2 billion valuation, roughly $3 billion below the $9.2 billion investors had assigned the company in 2022. Shares fell about 20 percent on the first full day of trading, and coverage linked part of the drop to regulatory uncertainty around a listing that used an SEC workaround during a government shutdown.[3]
On December 15, 2025, alongside fiscal third-quarter results, Navan announced that Butte would leave the CFO role effective January 9, 2026. Its Form 8-K said the departure was not due to any disagreement with the company, that she would remain an advisor until a full-time CFO was appointed or May 1, 2026, whichever came first, and that chief accounting officer Anne Giviskos would serve as interim CFO. The filing set out a separation package, including a one-time cash payment and accelerated vesting of equity awards.[3][4]
Trade press later reported that Navan hired Aurélien Nolf, a former Lyft finance leader, as its new CFO, and noted that Butte had overseen the company's first earnings report as a Nasdaq-listed company.[5]
Taking the NYSE public
Butte was chief financial officer of the New York Stock Exchange for two years beginning in 2004, a period that included the exchange's 2006 shift from a member-owned organization to a publicly traded company. CFO Dive described her as the NYSE's financial leader during that transition, and Navan's announcements cite it as one of two major financial-services IPOs she led as CFO.[6][2]
A 2019 board announcement describes her as having led the exchange's transition to public ownership and as having helped spin out Man Financial from Man Group.[7]
Earlier career
The 2019 announcement lists her early career as an equity research analyst at Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch, followed by a role as division chief financial officer of the financial services group at Credit Suisse First Boston. She went on to be CFO of Man Financial, the futures brokerage, and is also listed as the founder of Tile Financial. Navan's release additionally lists Sabre Corporation among her career highlights without specifying the role.[7][2]
She holds an MBA from Harvard and a bachelor's degree from Yale, and is a member of the Economic Club of New York and WomenCorporateDirectors, according to the same announcement.[7]
Board and advisory service
The 2019 announcement named her an independent director of Bain Capital Specialty Finance effective August 1, 2019, and listed her then-current roles as an independent director of BNP Paribas USA and a board member of DigitalOcean and Tuscan Holdings, plus advisor to the Long Term Stock Exchange and Carbon38. Previous seats included Fidelity's Strategic Advisers Funds, Man Financial and Accion International.[7]
Navan's 2024 release listed Fidelity Strategic Advisers Funds, BNP Paribas USA, DigitalOcean and Bain Capital Specialty Finance among her board roles, and CFO Dive reported that she also sat on the board of the fintech Stash, chaired DigitalOcean's audit committee and advised the Long-Term Stock Exchange. Current seats should be confirmed against company filings.[2][6]
Why she matters
Butte is one of a small number of finance executives who have led a company through a public listing twice: the NYSE in 2006 and Navan in 2025. The two were very different events. The first turned the exchange itself into a public company, and the second was a travel-technology listing that priced well below the company's private peak. Her career spans exchange operations, equity research and audit-committee governance.[3][6]
